April is an exciting month as this is when the world-famous Salone del Mobile takes place in Milan. I had the chance to visit the furniture fair a few years ago and the sheer volume of brands and talent was truly incredible. It takes days to see everything, but the trip is so worth it. Plus, the city is buzzing with design inspiration! I was excited to see Portuguese upholstery brand Domkapa unveil its highly anticipated Heritage Collection. I’m a big fan of the brand and how they combine elegance, customisation and comfort in their furniture designs.
And the new collection does not disappoint! The brand’s heritage is combined with a bold quest for evolution. Every detail is a tribute to the art of upholstery: enveloping forms, ergonomic seating, functional mechanisms and exquisite stitching define the artistry behind this new collection. Designed for those who seek elegance and comfort, the Heritage Collection offers fully customisable pieces that transform any space into a statement of sophistication. They have perfected their classic designs in a whole new way, making these pieces highly desirable. The attention to detail is second to none and the craftsmanship is evident.
Let’s look at some of my favourite pieces.
LAURENT MODULAR SOFA
There really is something special about this sofa. The shape reminds me a little bit of my Edward modular sofa, but the added stitching takes this piece to a whole new level. The fabric (Avalon Seapearl) is the epitome of sophistication together with the Natural Walnut table. It is a modular sofa, so you can configure it to suit your needs and space. And thanks to the new 3D configurator, designing your sofa is easier than ever. With its foldable back cushion, plush spring seat and customisable modules, this sofa will please even the most discerning of users. Domkapa is famous for creating the most comfortable contemporary furniture and the Laurent modular sofa is another perfect example. Bravo!
FRANCIS MODULAR BED
I love a multifunctional bed. The Francis modular bed combines comfort, elegance and practicality like no other. Not only is it easy on the eye, but the built-in side tables with hidden electrical connections for lighting and charging make this a very clever design. I love that it’s minimalist and that you can mix and match different materials and finishes to create a truly bespoke design. This is definitely going on my shopping list!
NEROLI SOFA
Domkapa’s new outdoor collection has been eagerly awaited. Outdoor furniture that looks and feels like indoor furniture is something we’ve all been waiting for. And in typical Domkapa style, comfort has not been compromised. The Neroli sofa is available in three sizes: one-seater, two-seater and three-seater, to seamlessly adapt to different spaces. You can choose from two outdoor fabrics and various colours to create your dream outdoor seating. It goes perfectly with the Salema table, don’t you think? And the signature ropework on the back and arms makes this piece so beautiful that you may want to place it indoors. It deserves to be the centre of attention wherever it is placed, that’s for sure!
CLAIRE BENCH
Now I do love a cosy bench. And the Claire bench from the Heritage Collection is just that and more. The rounded design gives this sophisticated bench a more relaxed feel. It’s available in two sizes and a choice of finishes to suit your style. I love the combo of honey and dark wood in this piece. If you’re looking for a more inviting space for your guests or bedroom, a bench is the way to go. And the chunky design of this bench makes it extra cosy and comfortable.
OLIVIA CONSOLE
The Olivia console deserves a special mention because it fits seamlessly behind the Olivia sofa. Perfect for large rooms or awkward spaces, these two pieces make a real statement and are an incredible way to save space. Elegant and functional, the Olivia console is available in a range of woods and with a choice of lacquered finishes. Designed to look good and feel good, this console ticks all the boxes for me, and I would love to see more furniture designed to complement each other like this.
