One of the hottest trends this summer is florals and we are seeing them literally everywhere, from tablecloths to candlesticks. I love incorporating the seasons into decor and nature-inspired pieces have long been my favourites. Flower motifs and patterns are a timeless interior design staple that will never date, and I love the romantic flair they bring to designs.
Here are a few simple ways to rock the floral look in a subtle, blend-it-in kind of way.
MICHAEL ARAM WILDFLOWER COLLECTION
American designer Michael Aram draws inspiration from nature and everyday objects that might be often overlooked. I’m a big fan of his nature-inspired metal sculptures, vases, tabletop frames and various home accessories. I have a few pieces from his Butterfly Ginkgo collection and would love to add some pieces from the Wildflower collection next. The Wildflowers collection is a celebration of flowers that are often overlooked, disregarded and underappreciated. Inspired by old faded antique flower paintings, these perfectly imperfect sculpted metal pieces were born. And we are in love!
CERAMICS
Ceramic wall hangings are a wonderful way to showcase sculptural pieces and patterns. Large statement pieces work particularly well in contemporary interiors, adding a touch of elegance. If you’re worried about hanging them, check out this tutorial on how to use disc hangers, which should make the job much easier!
WALL MURALS
Ok, so this might take a bit more work, but consider adding a floral mural or wallpaper to brighten up the room. I would also go for larger patterns with murals and smaller ones with traditional wallpaper. Although most interior designers will say it’s better to wallpaper every wall in the room, I think wall murals are the exception to the rule. Especially when the pattern is so big and bold. Just make sure the colours complement the colour scheme of the room.
FLORAL TEALIGHT HOLDER
I love this charming tealight holder from Danish homeware brand Søstrene Grene. If you have some spare glass jars floating around, this might even be a nice DIY. I’m definitely dying to try it, so watch this space!
FLORAL PATTERN CHEST
Our mother of pearl chest of drawers is probably one of the most special purchases for our new house. The piece of furniture has been intricately inlaid with mother of pearl in resin on the wooden frame, creating a stunning floral design. Romantic and classic, this is one of the pieces I hope to pass on to the next generation.
UNDERFOOT
A statement floral rug will turn your floor into a work of art. Vibrant colours make a stronger visual statement, while neutrals create a more harmonious effect. A perfect place for it would be in a hallway where you can avoid placing furniture on it. A statement rug should have a strong visual interest, so everything else should be kept to a minimum.
FLOWER INSPIRED LIGHTING
I couldn’t stop admiring the Holly chandelier at the Soho Home store earlier this week. The scalloped bases and orb-shaped bulbs create the perfect statement design for any room. The gorgeous vintage flair makes this piece a classic and I adore the white swirls glass. Brass and fully dimmable, what else could you ask for in a well-designed lighting piece?
