OUR NEW HOME

I have exciting news. We bought a new house! I honestly didn’t think we’d ever get there, but after two weeks of unpacking it’s all starting to feel very real. You can read about our house buying process here. I know I haven’t shared much in the recent months but I will very soon. The whole process was much harder than I thought it would be. It took us 7 months to buy this house (we were in a chain of 5) and I didn’t even really think it would go ahead until 8 weeks ago when we exchanged contracts. We are absolutely thrilled though as this house was our number one choice. I still can’t quite believe we live here but we are slowly starting to make it look like home.

We’re still in South East London.  We didn’t want to leave the area for so many different reasons. Living in a leafy suburb in Greater London gives us the best of both worlds. We’re only 20 minutes from central London but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of big city. Our girls still go to the same school, so in many ways this move was quite smooth.

The house itself is a little older than our old home. I wasn’t looking for a character property as such, but when we saw this house we fell in love. In fact, someone else already had an offer accepted, but luckily for us, it didn’t work out for them. I feel like this house was meant for us from day one. When you know you know, right? Our new house is a detached character property built in the 1920s that comes with a lot of history and original features. The property has been extended and modernised, but the previous owners kept quite a few of the  original features; like front door, beams, fireplaces, panelling etc. We are so lucky that they had great taste. However, I’m really excited to put my own stamp to it as well. My plan is to mix modern furniture with period features for a relaxed, but stylish look. I also think midcentury style furniture will work beautifully with the original features.

I can’t wait to share more with you very soon!
