I don’t think I’ve ever done a proper Christmas home tour since moving into this house, so here we go! We usually put up the decorations in late November to enjoy them as long as possible. I’ve been collecting our Christmas decorations for years now. There is no theme or specific colour, but I do like more subtle decorations that blend in with the rest of the decor. I love contemporary decorations and mainly (faux) greenery, brass ornaments, mini trees and a pop of red (especially this year). I used to go all pastel a few years back but now I am loving darker reds, plum, brown etc. You get the gist! And of course, neutral colours; beige and white which simply never go out of style and are guaranteed to give your home that classy look.
HALLWAY
I’m all about making an entrance during Christmas. Having an inviting hallway sets the tone for the rest of the house, so do make an effort even if it’s the only room you’ll decorate. This room is quite traditional and I want to embrace that. I love the original red brick fireplace and the wooden beams. The personalised stockings from Not On The Highstreet were bought for our last house but suit this house much better. This year, I bought four faux garlands from Homebase to go above the panelled walls and I love them! It’s so nice to come home and see the decorations first thing. It feels like a big warm hug! The cinnamon wreath on the front door is by my favourite London florist, Wild at Heart.
DINING ROOM
We spend a lot of time here during the Christmas period, so it’s always one of my favourite rooms to decorate. It’s also where Christmas dinner is served so it has to feel special. I try to match the Christmas decorations to the room, whether it’s the colour scheme or materials. The eucalyptus garland goes beautifully with the Hua Trees wallpaper, don’t you think? Nature is a big theme throughout the house and I try to take that into account when decorating. Bottlebrush Christmas trees are such a cool way to make a room feel festive. I also found the most gorgeous Christmas crackers from Toast which I can’t wait to use on Christmas day. I’m also a big fan of paper Christmas decorations. They are perfect for that subtle Christmas look and are easy to fold and store.
As for flowers, I love moody, red bouquets with a vintage feel for Christmas. But let’s be honest, anything would look beautiful in the Svenskt Tenn Dagg vase. It’s been the best investment!
LIVING ROOM
This is my favourite room in the house and I’m sure you can see why. It oozes coziness and warmth thanks to lots of wooden features, warm colours and the inglenook fireplace. I’ve chosen a neutral colour scheme to balance with all the dark wood. The real Christmas tree is definitely the show-stopper. Nothing beats the fresh scent of pine and I love how full our tree looks. We always buy the real tree from a local Christmas tree farm and make sure it’s freshly cut before putting it in the tree stand. If you remember to water it daily it should easily last until New Year’s. Just make sure you don’t place it in a high-traffic area or next to a radiator.
FIREPLACE ROOM/TV ROOM
Our fireplace room is still a work in progress. I was hoping our makeover would be finished before the end of the year but that is not going to happen. I hope we’ll be done by February (more about this soon). I do love having our faux tree here. Going for a pre-lit tree was a total game-changer! I’ve opted for neutral and gold baubles this time. It’s such a pretty tree that I think less is more. I can’t wait to reveal the full room makeover next year!
LANDING/UPSTAIRS
And finally, I couldn’t ignore our landing, could I? I like to swap our mirrors and wall decor for wreaths for Christmas. We walk through the landing multiple times a day, so it’s important to not forget about it. I’d like to add a lovely long garland to our staircase as well but I would prefer real foliage or at least a more realistic-looking one.
I hope you enjoyed the tour! I’ll share a reel soon on Instagram with more details, so make sure to follow me.
How are you decorating your home for Christmas this year?
