There’s something truly magical about autumn, isn’t there? Perhaps it’s the crisp, fresh mornings, or the way the leaves change to beautiful shades of gold and amber. Either way, it’s the perfect time to get cosy and ease into hibernation mode. I love drawing inspiration from nature during this season—especially when it comes to colour palettes. Think rustic browns, soft beiges with a hint of gold. These earthy tones will want you to slow down and unwind into the comfort of your home.
The team at Very kindly sent me some beautiful autumnal pieces to help me fully embrace the cosy season. I’ve been meaning to add a bit more texture to our living room for ages, and this gave me the perfect excuse. I love shopping at Very because it’s a true one-stop destination for everything from snuggly pyjamas to cosy lighting ideas. And let’s be honest—autumn is all about getting comfy. Soft lighting, cosy materials and comforting meals are what make your home feel extra inviting this season. Whether you’re layering up for a movie night or just sinking into the sofa after a long day, a little extra cosiness goes a long way. And honestly? I’m so ready for all of it.
Here’s how to bring a touch of autumn magic into your home.
LAYERED LIGHTING

Soft textures and ambient lighting creates cosy autumn vibes
Now that the days are getting shorter, it’s a good idea to add a bit more lighting around the room. I love using layered lighting. It helps set the mood and makes the space look well put together. I much prefer having a few smaller lamps scattered around instead of one big light. It instantly makes the space feel cosier, more inviting and even a bit bigger. I also love how lighting can bring out different textures and cast beautiful, artistic shadows around the room. Table lamps are one of the easiest ways to bring warmth and style into a room. Rattan shades are especially popular right now, and I’m a big fan!

Candle holders are another easy and affordable way to brighten up dark corners. I like to mix different sizes and finishes to create an effortlessly cohesive look. Lighting candles in the evening has become part of my evening routine. Almost like a little ritual before I pour myself a hot cup of tea and dive into a good book on the sofa.

SOFT THROWS & CUSHIONS

This is the season to snuggle up on your favourite sofa, wrapped in soft throws and surrounded by comfy cushions. I’m always drawn to natural materials like wool—they’re not only warm but also add a touch of luxury to any space. Woven cushions are great for autumn decor, creating that cosy atmosphere we crave in autumn and winter. And because I love playing with texture, I tend to keep the colour palette soft and neutral, allowing the materials to take centre stage. It also means these pieces are timeless and can be styled throughout the year. I always look for complementary colours and subtle patterns that work in harmony without overwhelming the space. Creating a sense of balance is so important to me—especially in the corners of my home where I go to unwind and truly relax.

COSY CHELSEA PEERS PYJAMAS

There’s something effortlessly cosy about slipping into soft pyjamas as the evenings draw in. I’ve been living in my Chelsea Peers pyjamas since I got them. The classic gingham pattern paired with delicate embroidery and red piping makes it timeless and effortlessly stylish. The pyjama set is made from soft cotton with a relaxed fit, making it as comfortable as pyjamas come. They really are the perfect pyjamas for autumn. I’m actually eyeing them up in other colours already… that’s how much I love mine!

COMFORT COOKING WITH THE SLOW COOKER

And of course, colder weather calls for comforting meals that are easy to prepare, because who wants to spend hours cooking when it’s dark by 5 PM? That’s where slow cookers come in handy. They let you toss in a few ingredients and come back to something hearty and delicious, with minimal effort. I love using plenty of herbs and whatever seasonal produce we have on hand to give it some flavour. One of my all-time favourite winter warmers is this Scandinavian salmon soup—it’s rich, comforting and absolutely perfect served with a slice of rye bread and a glass of Sauvignon. Warm, hearty and ideal for a cosy autumn night in!
