Sleep is one of those things we all know we could do better at as a family and definitely get more of. We spend nearly half our lives in bed, so it makes sense to invest in comfort.
We were sent the Simba Hybrid mattress to try, and I wanted to share our honest experience. From first impressions to how it’s held up after a week, here’s what we thought and whether it lives up to the hype.
To me, a mattress is just as important as the bed frame. There’s little point in investing in a beautiful bed if it’s paired with a poor-quality mattress that doesn’t offer proper support. That said, mattresses are incredibly personal — some people prefer a soft feel, while others need something firmer. Finding that sweet spot can be surprisingly tricky. Then there’s the issue of overheating, which is exactly why hybrid mattresses exist.
What Is a Hybrid Mattress?
Hybrid mattresses are a relatively recent innovation, first appearing in the early 2000s, after customers found they couldn’t quite get everything they wanted from traditional pocket-spring or memory foam mattresses alone. While pocket-spring mattresses offered good support and durability, they often lacked the pressure relief and comfort people were looking for. Memory foam, on the other hand, moulded beautifully to the body but could feel too warm, too soft, or lacking in bounce for some sleepers. Hybrid mattresses were created to bridge that gap, offering a more balanced sleep experience that suits a wider range of sleeping styles and preferences. And let’s be honest — we all know how annoying it is when someone moves in bed and wakes you up. With a hybrid mattress, that’s less of a problem.
What’s Special About the Simba Hybrid Mattress?

I’ll be honest, I’d seen Simba ads everywhere and probably felt influenced even before trying one. It sounded super comfortable and looked sleek and contemporary — what’s not to love? But once I dug a little deeper into the layers (quite literally!), I discovered what really makes the Simba Hybrid so special.
First of all, the Simba Hybrid mattress combines multiple layers of springs with advanced foam, including Aerocoil® microsprings right at the top, designed to give you a cooler, more stable sleep without too much bounce. The foam gently moulds to your body, while the springs add stability and just the right amount of responsiveness. Honestly, it feels like sleeping on a cloud — the perfect balance of comfort and support!
Simba also comes with a 200-night trial and a 10-year warranty, so you’ve got plenty of time to see if it’s the right fit. Hard not to be tempted, right?
First Impressions

First of all, delivery was fast — next day, even! The mattress arrived vacuum-packed, which made it easy to get it into the house and unpack. That said, the box is pretty heavy, so make sure it’s in the right room before you open it.
One of the first things I noticed was just how thick it was compared to the old mattress. It really takes up most of the space and is quite deep, so keep this in mind if you have a low-profile bed frame. The hybrid mattress is not technically designed for bunk beds, but because ours is quite high, we managed to get away with a thicker mattress. Simba do have a mattress specifically designed for bunk beds, if that’s what you’re after. We’re planning to move our daughter to a standard double bed in the next few years, so it made sense to get the right mattress now.
There was a strong “new mattress” smell at first, but it has reduced significantly after a week and should disappear completely soon. This is pretty common with memory foam mattresses (known as off-gassing). If you’re sensitive to smells, it’s worth letting it air out properly — ideally with all the bedding removed and plenty of ventilation for a few days. We didn’t do that at first (and we usually keep the bedroom door closed), which definitely explains why the smell lingered a bit longer.
Comfort Vs. Support

The mattress was super comfortable from day one and feels really well made, with high-quality materials that you can genuinely feel as soon as you lie down. We added a mattress protector straight away (always a good idea if you want to keep it looking pristine and extend its life). It’s definitely a mattress you sink into — in a good way.
It’s quite possibly the most comfortable mattress-in-a-box we’ve ever had, and it felt great right from the very first night, with no “breaking in” period needed. Although it’s advertised as medium-firm, I personally find it on the softer side (and that’s coming from someone who usually sleeps on a firm mattress), but still supportive enough that you don’t wake up with aches and pains.
Who Will Love The Simba Hybrid
I’d say this is an excellent mattress for anyone who loves that cosy, sink-into-the-mattress feeling but still wants proper support underneath. My daughter sleeps on her own, so I can’t comment too much on how bouncy it is or how it performs with two people, but she has definitely mentioned that she seems to move around much less during the night. To me, that’s always a good sign that she’s sleeping more deeply and comfortably.
She used to get too warm at night as well, especially in the summer, so it’ll be interesting to see if this mattress helps. Fingers crossed those hot, restless nights will be a thing of the past!
Sustainable & Eco-Friendly

Simba is about as sustainable as a mattress company can get. Their ambitious goal is to reach net zero by 2030, aiming to reduce emissions as much as possible and investing in projects that actively absorb carbon, rather than just offsetting it. It’s a thoughtful approach that looks beyond short-term fixes and focuses on making a genuine environmental impact.
Simba products are also GRS certified, use CertiPUR® foam, and incorporate recycled materials wherever possible. The mattresses are also designed to be recyclable or refurbished through specialist providers, helping to reduce waste and extend the mattress’s lifecycle.
On top of that, Simba Natural Hybrid® mattresses are sourced and crafted here in the UK. Pretty impressive, right?
1-Week Verdict

My daughter is both a back and side sleeper and tends to move around a lot during the night, so we definitely put this mattress to the test during our trial period. Both she and I agree — it’s easily the softest and comfiest mattress in the house. The mattress has held up really well so far, with no dipping or sagging, which is great as we’re not planning to rotate it. It also seems to regulate body temperature brilliantly, and she hasn’t complained about overheating like she used to. She’s absolutely delighted with her new mattress and it’s been a great addition to her revamped bedroom (see before-and-after pictures here!).
Overall, the Simba Hybrid has completely lived up to the hype for us. The only negative was the initial smell, which seems to be fading. Comfortable, supportive, and teen-approved — the Simba Hybrid has been a sleep upgrade we didn’t know we needed, but now wouldn’t be without.
