Why Decorex 2025 Had Me Dreaming: Luxe Design, Lighting, Craft And Innovative Tech

Decorex 2025 in London Olympia

I love a good snoop at Decorex every year. It’s a true source of inspiration and ideas, not to mention the chance to meet talented designers, suppliers, and more. From sofas to home cinemas, they truly have it all covered. This year felt like a celebration of craftsmanship, which seems to grow bigger and more impressive every year. I especially enjoy discovering smaller businesses and designers who are bringing fresh, innovative ideas to the table. The new sustainability corner was also a welcome addition — such an important conversation for the industry. And as always, the panel discussions were fascinating. I particularly enjoyed the insights on how interior designers can take greater responsibility for waste and sustainability. It was a truly enjoyable day, and it was lovely to catch up with friends across the industry.

Here’s what had me swooning this year…

STATEMENT FURNITURE

I do love a piece of statement furniture, and Decorex did not disappoint. This year’s palette and patterns were unapologetically bold. A dream come true for maximalist lovers! Striped chairs and tables, along with bold, beautifully coloured furniture in sleek silhouettes, are perfect for anyone who loves eclectic interiors. Think Kelly Hoppen meets Jonathan Adler — timeless, yet full of fun. I’m definitely a neutral girl at heart, but I’d love to have a loud statement piece somewhere in the house one day, maybe a cool chair, a bold rug, or some funky art. Something with a bit of personality!

LIGHTING TRENDS

Biophilic design is still going strong as we’re all craving that connection with nature more than ever. I keep spotting nature-inspired lighting, wallpaper and decorative pieces at trade shows, and I’m loving it. Technically, it’s not a new thing — those vintage mid-century tulip lamps have been around forever and are still absolute icons. I’ve got such a soft spot for lighting inspired by nature. Anything branch-like or petal-shaped always catches my eye. There’s just something so calming about bringing a bit of the outdoors inside — the perfect way to “bring the outside in,” if you ask me. And when you add warm metals like brass or bronze, with that little hint of antique flair, the look feels even more special. Some of my favourite lighting brands this year were Judith Kollo, Haberdashery Ltd, and Lights & Lamps — definitely worth checking out!

Soft fabrics and glass were also making waves at the event. I’ve been loving linen lighting lately (read about the trend here!) and was thrilled to see bouclé used in a lampshade. So, if you’ve ever thought a bouclé chair or sofa might be too delicate for you, now you can enjoy the look in a lampshade instead. Much more everyday-proof and just as lovely to look at!

THE ART OF LEATHER

I really appreciate good leather detailing in a piece. And leather makes for stunning artwork, don’t you think? It’s such a versatile material to work with, no wonder leather crafting is becoming popular!  I love that it’s now making its way onto walls, too. It’s a truly unique way to add texture and interest while keeping the overall look sleek and contemporary.

I’m also drawn to leather detailing in other pieces — whether it’s the trim on a mirror or a lamp, it instantly adds a touch of sophistication. Let’s be honest, a beautifully crafted leather handle or edge never goes unnoticed!

TECHNOLOGY MEETS DESIGN

I absolutely loved the HomePlay Serengeti Living experience at Decorex. In just a brief five-minute journey, we were transported into a world where light, sound, motion and atmosphere are choreographed to perfection. Not just through visible technology, but through beautifully integrated, design-led automation. Home cinemas with bespoke tech solutions are a major trend in luxury interior design right now. Every detail, from lighting to entertainment systems, is meticulously considered to deliver concert-grade audio and cinema-quality experiences.  And when it comes to seating — whether it’s a swivel chair, large L-shaped sofa or a more traditional recliner sofa — comfort should never be compromised in these media rooms. Electric recliner leather sofas are a smart choice for TV rooms, as they can be equipped with built-in chargers and lighting — perfect for gadget lovers!

VERSATILE CORK

Just as nature-inspired shapes continue to influence design, natural materials are also taking centre stage. I was especially captivated by a contemporary bathtub made entirely of cork. Not only is cork environmentally friendly, but it’s also incredibly resilient to dents, lightweight and beautifully unique in texture. Today, it’s used across industries — from construction and high technology to sports, interior design, fashion, and even cosmetics. Best of all, cork is a highly sustainable material, harvested from the outer bark of the cork oak tree without harming it. Pretty incredible, isn’t it?

I hope these highlights sparked some inspiration and new ideas for your next design project!
