Instead of January blues, I am going to fully embrace the winter hibernation mode this year. I’m not normally a big fan of January, but this time it feels different. I feel excited about the new year and all the opportunities that come with it. Especially now that I have some new homeware additions (thank you Santa!). January is the perfect time to rest and reflect and there’s no better place for it than your own home.
Here are a few different ways you can beat the winter blues..
WOOL BLANKETS
Wrap up warm! Now that the temperature has dropped make sure to invest in the best quality wool throw you can afford. They don’t have to be expensive but the good ones are (sorry!) I’ve had quite a few wool throws in the past and I’ve got to say our new Kotteri throw is the best one so far. It doesn’t shed, is ultra warm and looks amazing. I’m so glad I picked the burgundy colour as the rich colour complements our wood panelling beautifully. I also love that the throw is reversible if you prefer a more beige look. It elevates the space and makes the Ada leather cushion really pop! J’adore!
LE CREUSET COOKWARE
There is nothing more comforting than a hot chicken soup on a cold winter’s day! And I don’t know about you but I tend to eat more when the temperature drops. It’s like my body needs the extra fuel. I am looking forward to making soups and slow-cooked stews with our new Le Creuset cookware. The pan and the oven dishes are so beautiful and the volcanic colour couldn’t be more ideal for our kitchen. I’ve already used the oven dish to make mac and cheese and lasagne and I’m so impressed. They are truly non-stick and keep the food warm for a long time. The only negative is that they are pretty heavy but I can live with that.
HOT CHOCOLATE MAKER
I’ll admit, I’m not normally a hot chocolate fan but Hotel Chocolat have invented the easiest and most stylish hot chocolate maker I’ve ever laid my eyes on. The Velvetiser is compact, chic and super easy to use. We pair it with the Milky 50% hot chocolate sachets, although Hotel Chocolat have loads of different flavours available to try. It makes the nicest hot chocolate I’ve ever had and our entire family is pretty much hooked (you’ve been warned!).
CANDLES
Cosy nights require cosy, comforting candles. This time of year, there is no such thing as too many candles. Light as many as you can, including some scented candles for ultimate relaxation. My favourite scented candle at the moment is Cire Trudon’s Giambattista Valli. It’s a gorgeous smoky floral scent that I can’t get enough of. The perfect Valentine’s gift if you ask me!
PLANTS
If you don’t feel like spending lots of time outside, why not bring the outdoors in? I like surrounding myself with plants during the chillier months. They instantly lift the mood and ooze tranquillity. Incorporating natural elements in your home is proven to have a calming effect and benefit the air we breathe. My husband gave me the most perfect Christmas present, the Georg Jensen Bloom Botanica Pot (large). I have quite a few pieces from the Danish design house already and this is a striking addition to my collection. The petal-shaped pot is ideal for larger plants, like Monstera.
HOT BATHS
Take your winter hibernation routine to another level with a hot bath. It honestly melts away aches and pains and makes your winter worries go away. I love using Neom bath oils which smell like a luxury hotel resort spa. My favourite candle/oil is the Neom Perfect Night’s Sleep Candle Treatment which makes you feel like you’ve just had a massage. Utter bliss! And how fabulous is this copper bath in Coworth Park Hotel in Ascot? I really want to head back there this year. It is one of the best hotels and spas I’ve been to in the UK.
