I am very picky when it comes to following trends. I try not to jump on every bandwagon and only follow trends that truly speak to me and reflect my personality. The truth is, sometimes you just need some inspiration and there’s nothing quite like the feeling of coming up with a colour scheme for a newly renovated room. Or perhaps you’ve gotten a bit bored and just want to throw in a few accent colours to spruce up the place. Worried about trends going out of date? Well, if you truly love the design it will be forever timeless for you. And if in doubt, pick trends that have timeless potential; neutral colours, natural materials and mid-to-high-end furniture will certainly stand the test of time.
I’ve picked 6 timeless furniture trends inspired by my favourite upholstery brand, Domkapa’s new collection that will age well. Let me know if you agree!
EARTHY COLOURS
Warm, earthy tones are back and I couldn’t be happier! Domkapa’s new collection is full of earthy greens, greys and browns that are perfect for creating that relaxing and timeless backdrop. Neutral colours look particularly stunning with different textures and unusual shapes, allowing the shape of the furniture to take centre stage. These colours look good in both minimalist interior schemes as well as rustic ones, so if you are looking for timeless furniture that won’t date earthy colours are your friend!
CURVES
We have seen more curved and unusual (organic) shapes in furniture design. From curved sofas to coffee tables, it is easy to see why this trend is (hopefully) here to stay. Soft edges and arched shapes create a calming interior scheme, following the biophilic design concept that helps you connect better with nature and the natural elements within that space. Domkapa, of course, is no stranger to designing curved furniture pieces. The Gilbert side table (above) is the perfect example of this curvaceous design that brings practicality and luxury to any living space.
QUIET LUXURY
Quiet luxury has become quite the buzzword both in interiors and fashion lately. In the interior design world, it means having an emphasis on quality and finer details rather than bright colours and busy patterns. But, are these balanced palettes here to stay? I certainly hope so. Domkapa has nailed the essence of quiet luxury in many ways. Simple and sophisticated furniture designs in neutral colours are guaranteed to create a timeless interior scheme that won’t date. There is also something to be said about how quiet luxury makes you feel. In today’s fast-paced and hectic world, we all need some zen decor to unwind. And if you do want more colour, add some yellows, greens or dark reds to the mix!
NATURAL MATERIALS
Natural materials are my favourite thing right now. There are so many reasons why I prefer a natural fabric over a synthetic one. If you have children or pets you’ll want fabrics that are durable and easy to clean. l also find natural fabrics like wool and cotton, more comfortable and breathable than their synthetic counterparts. Domkapa has an impressive selection of natural fabrics to choose from, from wool to leather, you’ll find something for even the most demanding interior design projects. How gorgeous is the Hubert armchair paired with a matching pouffe? The mix of leather and wool makes this piece really stand out.
SUSTAINABILITY
I’m sure sustainability is a trend that we all happily welcome. After years of wasteful mass-produced items, the world needs more environmentally-conscious brands, like Domkapa, that make things that last a long time. The Portuguese furniture maker takes environmental impact seriously and ensures the use of high-quality, locally sourced materials for all their furniture. Every piece of furniture is 100% Portuguese and you can read more about their sustainable production process here.
BESPOKE DESIGNS
I am so happy to see the bespoke furniture trend gaining popularity. Choosing bespoke pieces over mass-produced ones is much better for the environment. It will also help you to show your personality and give your decor that custom feel. Domkapa’s entire business model is based on this concept. Every product is designed and created specifically to suit the specific needs and requirements of the customer. This is also a much more sustainable approach to furniture making and it will eventually slow down the overconsumption and waste in the industry. And of course, there is no better way of creating a good ‘flow’ in your home when every last detail is tailored to your preferences and tastes.
Domkapa will be exhibiting its new collection at Salone del Mobile in Milan for the first time next month! The event runs from April 16th and 21st of 2024 and you can find Domkapa’s stand at Hall 1, Stand G12.
