Hotel Room Tour: A Bohemian Retreat at Baia di Chia, Sardinia

As you may know, I love a beach holiday. Despite being born in a cold country, I’m convinced that I was born somewhere hot in a previous life. Anyway, last month, we headed to Sardinia in Italy for our family holiday. I was expecting glorious weather and delicious food, but I had no idea just how fabulous our suite (Suite Incanto) at the Baia di Chia hotel would be. When we booked it, we thought we were booking a standard two-bedroom suite. What we actually got was a two-floor villa with two private terraces and a hot tub.  The accommodation was beautifully decorated in a minimalist, bohemian style, with a Sardinian-meets-Ibiza vibe. The space was so tranquil that it was easy to get into a proper holiday spirit and forget about everything else, which is exactly what we came here to do.

Now, let’s take a look at some decor tips that I’d like to steal for my own home to create that relaxed holiday vibe.

RATTAN LIGHTING

Rattan lighting isn’t just for beach resorts. The bohemian look suits multiple interior styles and can be truly timeless, making it a versatile choice for any home. I especially love rattan pendant lights in cosy bedrooms or conservatories. We swapped my daughter’s bedroom lamp shade to a rattan one few months ago and it was the best decision! Rattan lamps let so much light through, making them perfect for lighting up those dark corners in your home.

WOVEN WALL DECORATIONS

Sardinia has a long heritage in handicrafts, so it made sense to feature some of these in the room and throughout the hotel too. The wall colour was kept neutral to make these tribal-design-inspired wall decorations stand out. Mixing different patterns, colours and sizes works really well, especially when sticking to the rule of three in interior design. Depending on the size of the wall, one large wall decoration would look just as good. I loved the warm shades that had been chosen here and was tempted to buy some for our house.

SOFA BED

The room could fit up to five adults, so it was a good idea to have a big sofa bed in the separate living room. The modern furniture design blended seamlessly with the bohemian vibe and it was way more comfortable than it looked. I also loved the little side step and the dark wood they had chosen. In addition to the sofa bed, there were two other sofas in a separate living area, providing plenty of space for a family or small group of friends.

DARK WOODS

I love that they weren’t afraid to combine darker exotic woods with light rattan. Combining different wood finishes adds depth and warmth to minimalist interior schemes. Ideally, you shouldn’t mix more than three types of wood, but sticking to warmer undertones (as shown here) will help you achieve a cohesive look.

MIRRORED BUILT-IN WARDROBE

A mirrored built-in wardrobe is a clever way to make a room appear bigger. They can look a bit dated though, so fussy designs should be avoided to keep things simple. Using two different colours or textures will give a sophisticated look. Try matching the colour of the wardrobe to something else in the room, such as the curtains or a feature wall.

The second bedroom was downstairs, where our girls slept. It was great that we all had our own space to sleep peacefully, as well as plenty of storage space. They even had their own veranda, which was perfect for enjoying those late-night sunsets.

COURTYARD AND VERRANDA

The two verandas and the courtyard made this stay particularly special. I loved sitting on the veranda in the mornings, drinking my espresso before anyone else got up. It was so peaceful that the only sounds I could hear were the birds and nature as I admired the lagoon and its native pink flamingos. We’ve stayed in a lot of hotels, but in terms of accommodation and views, this one beats them all.

The rest of the hotel was just as beautiful, with bohemian vibes throughout.

We’ve stayed in a lot of hotels, but in terms of accommodation and views, this one beats them all. The weather was perfect at +27 degrees Celsius every single day and despite the hot temperature, the hot tub was used every day too. I was sad to leave because it really did feel like a home away from home and I got lots of good ideas for our own home.
