I try not to follow trends too much (I’d rather stay loyal to my own personal style). But every now and then I see something that I know will work well with my Scandi aesthetic. The sculptural candle trend really took off in 2020. You may have seen them popping up on Instagram and interior magazines for a while now. These quirky candles have also been a huge hit in the Nordics for the past year or so. Quite a few online suppliers here in the UK stock them too. Etsy, Trouva and Liberty have a good selection. If I’m honest with you, I wasn’t totally sure I’d love this new candle trend. I hate when candles drip or burn unevenly (leaving a mess behind), so I was a little nervous purchasing one for this reason. I finally took the plunge and ordered myself some twist candles and guess what? They burn absolutely fine (just like normal candles).
I love this peach twist candle from Dutch designer Lex Pott. It is so quirky and fun. This twist candle combines both the base and the candle in a single material shape. The double ended shape reminds me of a snake but I guess it’s open to interpretation. I was tempted to go for white/cream but in the end I wanted a more summery colour (peach). These candles come in multitude of colours and will last up to 10 hours. So far it has been burning beautifully. I’ve been burning it quite sparingly though as I love the shape so much. I was a little worried it would ruin our wood table but so far so good (obviously I never leave a burning candle unattended). I adore the shape so much that I’m already thinking about which colour I will order next. These twist candles aren’t the cheapest ones out there but they definitely make a statement. Can you imagine how amazing grouping 3 or 4 together would look like? The black Cheetah match box is from Trouva.
I was so happy to find these cream twisted candles on Amazon. I’ve been looking for elegant twist candles for a while now and these couldn’t be more perfect. The burn time is a little shorter than you’d expect (app. 4.5 hours) but they are worth it. The candles came from Italy and the delivery time was just over a week. I find the cream colour very classy, but they are also available in red, blue and silver if you want to make a real statement. I’ve paired them here with the Iittala Nappula Candelabra which is one of my favourite Nordic design classics.
I hope you like the sculptural candle trend as much as I do. I feel like I am forming a bit of an addiction to these candles already. I’m currently eyeing up these colourful bubble candles and these two-wick bend candles from Broste Copenhagen. The trouble is that they look so chic that you may never want to light them. Sculptural candles really are the perfect addition to your home if you’re going for a minimalist look, but want to add a bit of texture and depth to your home. I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t work with more traditional interior schemes as well.
Last but not least, how cool is this twist candle tutorial I found on Tik Tok?!
