MY FAVOURITE TREE INSPIRED WALL MURALS

Wall murals have been around for ages, but the trend is getting bigger (and better). Although it seems that painted feature walls have become somewhat old fashioned, dramatic wall murals and wallpaper are on the rise again. What I love about wall murals is that they can instantly transform a very ordinary room to something out of an interiors magazine. I haven’t always been a fan of wallpaper. I think ripping out three different layers of wallpaper in our last house totally ruined it for me. But, I’m over that now (I think) and I couldn’t be more excited about picking the perfect tree/botanical wall mural for our dining room. In case you’re wondering what’s the main difference between a wall mural and wallpaper, wall murals are usually custom-made to fit the wall where as a wallpaper consists of multiple pannels/rolls.

We inherited the most colourful feature wall when we bought this house and it’s just not my style. I’ve been wanting to change it from day one but it’s taken me ages to decide what I’ll replace it with. I wanted something more subtle but still with a wow-factor. I didn’t want it to be bland though (we’ve got enough white walls in this house) and I knew whatever I’d decide to go for would have to make an equally big statement (in a more subtle way of course). Our leafy garden continues to inspire me and it has always played a big part in my design themes. I loved the idea of a forest/tree wall mural way before Gwyneth Paltrow decided to feature one in her newly decorated dining room in Architectural Digest. Great minds, eh? I spent months on Pinterest looking for the perfect wall mural and I have recently made the decision (which I will reveal here very soon).

But first, let’s take a look at my top picks.

Nidra Moss wall mural by Woodchip & Mangolia is something out of a fairytale. It’s so timeless and serene. The green hand-painted design is the perfect way to bring the outdoors in. I find the scenery captivating, although maybe a little busy for our contemporary dining room. The colour palette is very soothing though and full width samples can be ordered to make sure that you are happy with your decision.  The wallpapers are available in ‘paste the wall’ application method with a beautiful soft matte finish. Stick with the same colour palette for the furnishing for ultimate tranquility.

The sketch forest silver mural is the most glamorous on my list. It’s available in silver and gold with different finishes. It was one of the first wall murals I spotted online and although I love the moodiness, it’s a bit too dark and monochrome for our dining room. I think this would look great in a cosy bedroom or perhaps in a dark tv room, but I’m just not feeling it in a dining room. Especially in one that is filled with lots of natural light and greenery next to it. The quality looks superb though and Graham & Brown is one of the most reputable wallpaper specialists out there.

This is so pretty, right? I found the birds on trees wallpaper on Etsy and it’s available in a self-adhesive wallpaper, traditional paste-the-wall  and removable vinyl wall-covering. The traditional Chinoiserie style makes this wall mural so dreamy. I do find it a bit busy for my taste though which is why I would prefer to choose something more subtle for our dining room.  I ordered some samples and although in theory I like stick and peel wallpapers, the traditional wallpaper felt thicker and more luxurious. This wallpaper in vinyl is also suitable for wet rooms which makes it a very versatile option.

If you’re looking for a more minimalist wallpaper, hua trees wall mural  is your best bet. I love that it’s available in green, blue, grey and pink to suit different colour schemes. The wallpaper is painted using Chinese inks in a non-traditional style. The best part is each roll comes in three different size pannels which means that it will fit any wall width. I adore the hua trees pattern. It works particularly well with pastel colours. I think this has got to be one of the chicest wall murals I’ve seen. If you love the Scandi aesthetic, hua tress wall mural will look the part. I ordered few samples via Etsy and I can confirm that it feels as luxurious as it looks. Definitely a major contender for me!

The jungle  land wallpaper by Rebel Walls is another one that looks straight out of a fairytale. The wallpaper is inspired by the copperplate illustrations used in children’s books in the late nineteenth century, The black and white theme would look very stylish in a colourful bedroom with sophisticated velvet furniture. I spotted this gorgeous wallpaper in the Swoonworthy blog few years ago and it looks as stylish today than it did back then. Definitely the one to go for if you want to make a real statement.

Now tell me which one is your favourite?
